Textiles and Templates

I LOVE using textiles in my creations....
vintage fabrics, lace, burlap and canvas
are among my favorites.

So.....when I received my Canvas Corp Burlap Pillow Round...
I couldn't WAIT to play with it!!
.....and here is my finished product!

I do have to say this was my first try at stenciling on burlap....
I was very unsure of how it was going to work
due to the weave of the fabric and the density of the fibers...
but I was going to give it a try anyways!

I chose the Crafters Workshop ~ Quatrefoil Reversed 12x12 template and
a bit of Precious Metal Effect Paint ~ Mother of Pearl
and a makeup sponge,
.....can I say.... it worked WONDERFULLY!
Just a hint of color on the Canvas Corp Light Pink heart....PERFECT!

I just LOVE how it came out!

Now when it comes to stenciling on canvas....
to me.....that is easy peasy!
I used the Crafters Workshop ~ Mini Chickenwire Reversed 6x6
and Sketch Grid 12x12
and applied small amounts of
Precious Metal Effect Paint ~ Gold
with the same makeup sponge
and applied it to Canvas Corp ~ Mini Shapes ~ Flags
and a heart I cut from a Canvas Corp ~ 12 x 12 Canvas Sheet.

I accented the pillow with
Mother of Pearl Buttons and 7Gypsies Hardware and Metals.

I finished off my pillow with a Canvas Corp Burlap flower
accented with
more 7 Gypsies Hardware and Metal and a big ole Mother of Pearl button
and LOTS of hand stitching and Multi Medium to hold it all together.

I haven't decided yet if I am going to stuff it and use
it as a pillow or hang it on my wall....

Babies First Beach Album ~ Canvas Corp Brands

I was laughing at myself....

as the focus of my design work has TOTALLY changed

since the arrival of my grandson.

I have to say, it is a bit of a stretch as

I love all things.....flowers!

WARNING....You may need to sit down as this creation

has not a flower on it!! Let it not be said that I didn't try though....

My grandson recently had his first trip to the beach.

Though I don't have the photos yet I thought

I would get a jump on things and create a mini album.

The base of my mini is
Canvas Corp Brands ~ Burlap Scrapbook ~ 6x6.

I wet the edges of the burlap and painted on a bit of
Tattered Angels ~ Chalkboard ~ Cornflower Daze.
I also painted the Cornflower Daze on the binding.

First, I created a compass using
7gypsies ~ Optical Lenses ~ Antique Brass,
a spinner, a compass from 7gypsies ~ Maritime ~ Mini Ephemera,
topped with 7gypsies ~ Studs ~ Dome ~ Antique Brass.
I placed it on a
Canvas Corp Brands ~ Mini Shapes ~ Circle.
I had stamped
with Cornflower Blue ~ Archival Ink using
7gypsies ~ Vintage Stamps.

I used other pieces from the

7gypsies ~ Maritime ~ Mini Ephemera.

I can't WAIT to get my pictures so I can finish off my album!!

HOME!!!

Soo many things have been happening in my

home in the last few months....

a new grandbaby

my boy graduating from high school

to name just a few!!

Now things are about to really change...

my daughter is moving out with her boy...

and my boy will be moving to Florida

to begin the next chapter of his life!

....but HOME is ALWAYS where the HEART IS!

I created a banner for my daughter

to adorn the entrance of her new apartment

and mark a new chapter in her life!

My ideas was to keep this banner very

monochromatic and shabby!

For the base of my banner I chose 2 each of the

Canvas Corp ~ Canvas/Burlap Shapes ~ Triangle

and 2 each of the Canvas Corp ~ Canvas/Burlap Minis Shapes ~ Flag.

I wanted to create a background for my "Triangles" so I used various

Canvas Corp ~ Kraft on Black papers,

cut slightly larger than the Canvas/Burlap Triangles,

then I distressed the edges of the paper triangles.

I adhered the Canvas Corp ~ Canvas/Burlap Minis ~ Flag to the

larger "banner" pieces.

From a piece of

Canvas Corp ~ White on Kraft French Home Sampler paper,

I cut out the banner shapes

spelling out the word HOME!

On each "banner" piece I used pieces of vintage lace

and a Petaloo ~ Mixed Textured Mini Blossom ~ Ivory flower.

I even stamped on the Canvas Corp ~ Canvas Triangles using

Wendy Vecchi/Rangers Archival Ink ~ Potting Soil.

I chose to accent the first and last "banner" pieces a bit differently

with a folded Color Me Crazy Flower

that I spritzed with

Tattered Angels ~ Glimmer Mist ~ Precious Metals.

I then added a loopy bow made from

Canvas Corp ~ Cord ~ Black.

I attached all the "Banner" pieces to a entire piece of

Canvas Corp ~ Fringe.

BTW.....my daughter already knows where she wants to hang

her "Banner" and it makes my heart happy!!

MOTHERHOOD.....

Recently, my daughter had a WONDERFUL little baby boy.....

but his arrival has been full of challenges....
I wanted to maker her something special...
and this is what I came up with!

For my canvas I used

Die~Namites ~ Heart Leaves Swirl

and

Die~Namites ~ Large Ivy

Both dies were cut from Tattered Angels Mistable papers...

Seersucker and White Linen.

I love these papers because it allows me to

customize the colors of my die cuts for the piece I am creating.

I colored the Heart Leaves Swirl with

Tattered Angels ~ Chalkboard ~ Apricot Nectar and

Large Ivy ~ Glimmer Mist ~ Key Lime Pie.

Also, I didn't use the Large Ivy as a whole diecut.

When I designed this die....

I did so with ideas of using as a whole

or as pieces parts!

PS.....my daughter loves her canvas of encouragement!!!

IT'S DADS AND GRADS WEEK
on the PETALOO BLOG this week!!

What Dad wouldn't want a Layout to Celebrate Father's Day??!?!?

As I am still on my quest of creating "Manly Layouts"

I chose to use the Quick Quotes Serendipity

to create a layout of my ever changing Grandson....

Now I have to say....

the Blue and Purple papers are gorgeous... but for a boy layout??

The way I resolved the "color" issue....

was to add Kraft color, by use of paper...

I think it was the PERFECT solution HOW about YOU??

A few Penny Lane ~ Forget me Nots ~ Robin's Egg Blue

nestled in the mix! Accented with die cut Ivy Leaves.

How cute is the picture of Izaya....
with a little bit of mischief in his eyes!!?!?!?
So....Did I make it work??
